Santa Cruz victorious over Frampton by MD

The sequel lived up to the expectations!

Leo Santa Cruz vs Carl Frampton II was another action packed fight, but the result was different from the first.  Santa Cruz evened the score at 1-1 by avenging his loss to Frampton last year, with the judges scoring it 114-114 and 115-113 x2.  I had the fight wider than pretty much everybody that I saw on Twitter, I only had Frampton winning two rounds, though the fight was closer than a scorecard like that would seem to indicate.

Santa Cruz said after the fight that he was disappointed that he didn’t apply more pressure, but especially early in the fight, the gameplan to box Frampton really paid off.  This was contrary to what many thought he would have to do, who many saw Frampton as the better boxer based on the first fight.  Santa Cruz’s adjustments were extremely impressive, not many people thought he would win this one and he definitively proved everyone wrong.

Frampton said that Santa Cruz deserved the decision, in a great show of sportsmanship.  Both fighters said they wanted the rubber match, which Frampton said he wanted to do in Belfast.  This fight was on Santa Cruz’s home turf, so that would be fair.  I can’t wait to see it!
